Start Sailing

If you don't know your Aft from your Anchor, your Mast from your Helm, this is the perfect beginner's course to start your sailing adventure.

There are 4 x 3 hour lessons in an open group of between 2-3 people. With your fellow shipmates, you'll learn:

• The names and terms you need (to understand your instructor)
• How to make sense of the ropes and tackle to rig your boat
• How to push off and land back at the dock (there's more to it than you think!)
• How to sail a steady course using the available wind

You don't need any experience and we'll head out rain or shine!

Just You And Your Boat

If you'd like to learn to sail or kayak but you aren't keen on doing it in a group, you can pay a little extra and have some private lessons. That means it's just you and your very own instructor.

You'll cover the same topics as the Start Sailing course but you can organise 1-2hour lessons to suit your timetable, and learn at your own pace.

You don't need any experience and we'll head out rain or shine!

Learn With Your Friends

If want to learn to sail or kayak with your buddies (or your family), you can pay a little extra and book the group out. That means it's just 2-3 of you with your own instructor. No strange people. (Although who you bring is up to you!)

You'll cover the same topics as the Start Sailing lessons but you can organise 1-2hour lessons to suit your timetable.

You don't need any experience and we'll head out rain or shine!

Discover Kayaking

While it's true that anyone can kayak, regardless of your age or fitness, if you really want to have the most fun out on the water it will help to know some basics.

And this is what Discover Kayaking covers. Our instructors are ACA and BCU certified (which means they know A LOT about kayaks and canoes) and will go through:

• Carrying and lifting techniques
• Proper boat and PFD fit so you're nice and comfy
• The most efficient stokes to go forwards and backwards
• Manoeuvring strokes to help you get exactly where you want to go

You'll learn all this in calm and protected water but we'll also talk about hazards (on and off the water), hypothermia and hyperthermia and what to do, so you're prepared for anything.

Kayaking Beyond The Basics

If you want to get a bit more serious about adventuring, then this is the next step. Actually it's the next few steps!!

Beyond The Basics is a full day kayaking. We'll cover the basics from Discover Kayaking but go further and look at what happens when you flip over. Although it might sound scary, flipping over is very routine. You just need to know how to get upright and off you go!

• Safe wet exit and re-entry techniques that are assisted and on your own

Our instructors are ACA and BCU certified (which means they know A LOT about kayaks and canoes) and they'll cover pretty much everything you'll need to know about controlling the kayak safely, setting you on the waterway to adventure without limits.
